Did you know?
Harry Lumley, former NHL all-star goaltender, Stanley Cup winner, and Veznia Trophy winner, made Owen Sound his home. He was born and raised in Owen Sound, and retired here as well. Prior to his death, the community centre was renamed in his honour. It is now officially known as the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

Natural Attractions

Nestled into the Niagara Escarpment (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve), Owen Sound is in the heart of a vast natural wonderland, with Harrison Park as the glowing jewel in the crown.  In all seasons, Owen Sound is an outdoor playground the whole family can enjoy!

The Niagara Escarpment provides unique wildlife habitat: home to 100 species of trees; 320 species of birds, some indigenous to the escarpment alone; and 50 of the 70 species of fern known to exist in Ontario. Because of the escarpment, "northern Grey County is a patchwork quilt landscape. Rolling, glacial sculpted farmlands are interspersed with patches of deciduous forest, meandering rivers and creek valleys lined in dark green cedar. The rural countryside is dotted with farming homesteads not greatly changed in over a century."
